NEW YORK, NY (December 4, 2015) – At its “Strong Women Strong World” event in New York today, World Vision announced that renowned philanthropic producer David Clark would launch Water Now 2016 , a global clean water campaign in support of World Vision, coinciding with UN-Water’s World Water Day.

Water Now was the largest clean water social media campaign in history, generating a social media voice of more than 1 billion and featuring posts from celebrities like Pharrell Williams, Alicia Keys, Pitbull, Britney Spears, Fergie, Kesha, Nick Jonas, Sia, Ne-Yo, Justin Bieber and One Direction. Beginning today, dignitaries, celebrities and the public are once again encouraged to go to CauseFlash.org to lend their own social media voices to the global Water Now initiative, which again culminates on UN World Water Day (March 22, 2016).

Grammy Award Winners Pitbull, Juanes and Jill Scott, along with Sesame Street, UN Water and renowned authors Joel Osteen and Max Lucado are just a few of the supporters already committed to lending their voices to Water Now 2016. Water Now uses the Cause Flash digital platform to collect and amplify the social media voices (Twitter, Facebook and Google+ followers) of celebrities, dignitaries and the public, so targeted campaigns can be launched instantly. To date, the collective social media voice of Water Now 2016 is more than 140 million people, and growing daily.

“In addition to donating one’s social media followers into the campaign, the public will also be empowered to donate directly to World Vision so we can continue to provide clean water to those who need it most,” said Dr. Greg Allgood, vice president of water at World Vision. “Every donation of $25 will be matched by the generosity of our longtime supporters Dana and David Dornsife in order to provide $50, which is sufficient to provide one person in Africa with access to clean water and all its benefits.”

In addition, a unique partnership has been created with the Clean Water Here cause brand, which promotes clean water in the United States. With founding partner Watermill Express, which maintains over 1,300 kiosks throughout the country that dispense clean affordable water, every time someone buys a gallon of water at one of their participating locations in 2016, they’ll be informed that Watermill Express has donated a gallon of clean water on their behalf to a person in need in the developing world via World Vision.

“As the largest supplier of drive-up, pure drinking water in the United States, we’re honored to partner with Watermill Express and the Clean Water Here cause brand they support, said Water Now Founder David Clark. “Not only are we grateful to Watermill Express and their CEO Lani Dolifka for helping to provide clean affordable water for those in need here at home, through every purchase, people will see a simple message that says ‘1 gallon here gives 1 gallon there.’”

To be part of the Water Now initiative, dignitaries, celebrities and social advocates will tweet and post leading up to UN World Water Day, then on the day itself, and share a Cause Flash link to donate directly to World Vision. It is anticipated that Water Now will again be the largest celebration of UN World Water Day, a day supported by its 193 member states and celebrated around the globe on March 22.

United Nations World Water Day:

World Water Day has been observed on March 22 since 1993 when the United Nations General Assembly declared March 22 as “World Day for Water” and is coordinated by UN-Water. The UN and its 193 member nations devote this day to implementing UN recommendations and promoting concrete activities within their countries regarding the world’s water resources. In addition to the UN Member States, a number of NGOs promoting clean water leverage World Water Day as a time to focus public attention on the critical water issues of our era.

Clean Water Here:

Founded by Watermill Express and David Clark Cause, Clean Water Here promotes the need for clean, affordable drinking water in the United States. Research indicates that out-of-date plumbing, sometimes over 100 years old is delivering water through pipes that often leak contaminants into the water. In addition, old-fashioned water treatment facilities may not always address 21st-century contaminants like pesticides, industrial chemicals and arsenic. So who is most likely to be drinking this water that is known to cause disease – the poorest and most vulnerable among us. Clean Water Here is dedicated to educating the public about sustainable alternatives for clean, affordable water. For more information visit www.cleanwaterhere.org.

Watermill Express:

Watermill Express is the largest drive-up pure drinking water company in the U.S. and the green alternative to prepackaged water. Watermill Express customers reuse their own clean containers to reduce pollution from single-use plastic water bottles. Founded in 1984, Watermill Express has supported numerous causes focused on children and families. For every 5 gallons of water purchased at participating locations in 2016, Watermill Express will donate $0.01 to World Vision. For more information visit www.watermillexpress.com
