David Clark created and produced the “Anne Frank 75th Birthday Tribute,” which celebrated the life and legacy of Anne Frank. The Honorary Chairwoman Clark secured was Miep Gies, 96, the courageous woman who hid Anne and her family for two years and later found Anne’s diary. The host was Buddy Elias, Anne’s cousin and only living family member. Edmund “Hello” Silberberg, Anne’s boyfriend at the time of her hiding participated by reading from Anne’s diary, as did Millie Perkins who portrayed Anne in the 1959 film “Diary of Anne Frank,” and Natalie Portman, who played Anne in the 1997 Broadway production of the same name. Additional performers included Richard Gere, Whoopi Goldberg, Lou Reed, Laura Linney, Amy Irving, Emmy Rossum and Cindy Lauper.
Event Chairs included President Bill Clinton, President Jimmy Carter, then Senator Barack Obama, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, and Senator Robert J. Dole.
