David Clark wanted to create a digital broadcast network that could instantly connect millions of people through a digital platform that seamlessly aggregates social media feeds (Twitter, Facebook, Google+ followers) of renown individuals, organizations and the public, to raise maximum awareness and funds for causes around the world. By connecting and amplifying followers and fans, Clark wanted to launch focused campaigns to address some of the greatest issues of the day.
The first iteration of this digital platform was created when DCC partnered with the Ad Agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky, branding the platform “Cause Swarm.”
Impressed with the potential for global reach, the Cannes International Festival of Creativity asked David Clark, Smokey Robinson, and CP+B president Andrew Keller to present the new concept of harnessing social media for good, at a seminar during the festival.
The next speaker at Cannes was President Bill Clinton, who met with David Clark and Smokey Robinson following his seminar and invited them to join him at the upcoming Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) to introduce Clark’s idea of social-media aggregation to attending World Leaders and global media. The President also suggested the first global initiative raise funds and awareness for clean water, and introduced Clark to the P&G Children’s Safe Drinking Water initiative. With Smokey Robinson as the first confirmed celebrity to help promote clean water, Clark branded the effort “Smoke Alarm.”
In 2012 President Clinton kicks-off the Clinton Global Initiative by introducing Clark’s new social media engine and talks about how it would be used to help P&G honor their CGI commitment to “save a life every hour” as long as the company is in business.
Over time Clark changed the Smoke Alarm name to Flash Flood For Good since the initiative promoted clean water. In addition, Clark improved upon the initial Cause Swarm idea and created a new digital platform and company called Cause Flash, solely dedicated to launching social media campaigns.
